Hvar Island is known as the sunniest place in Croatia and the island of lavender. It has been ranked among the ten most beautiful islands in the world by many travel magazines worldwide. The crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, hidden beaches, charming towns with stunning architecture and the beauty of unspoiled nature.
Hvar is the largest town in the island and one of the most attractive tourist destinations of the Adriatic. It is funny as the name of the Island is Hvar, and the name of the biggest city is Hvar, so take care when taking a ferry not to come to other side of the Island like we did once. Wonderful coast, luxury hotels, tasty restaurants, yachts and beautiful people, sounds like a perfect combination for an amazing holiday.
It is not a big city but there is plenty of stuff to do, such as Hvar Fortress with an amazing view to the city, Dubovica, sailing around Pakleni Islands, Milini Beach, Carpe Diem partying and just a simple walk around the city to enjoy its beauties.
Some details which is good to know
How to get there: There are ferries to Hvar from Split and Drvenik. Price depends on the season but they are around 20e per peson
Where to stay: Hvar is full of private apartments to rent, hotels and luxury hotels. One of the most famous one with a direct location in the center is Adriana Hotel.
Other cities on the Island : Jelsa seemed to us more cosy and quite than Hvar. There are also many restaurants along the seafront. Stari Grad is the main port of the Hvar. The city itself is more mediocre than others. However we ate the best pizza in Croatia there. The restaurant Marko’s pizzeria served pizza baked on the wood in the old style oven.
Beaches on Hvar: As it is Islands you can find beaches everywhere. They are not sand beaches thought, so if you´re into that check out Vis.
Party: There are three main party places, Hula hula, Carpe Diem and Pink Champagne. It is a perfect place to visit during the Yacht week.
